Rawr-ing Great Day

Hello 🙂  I’m almost caught up with blogging the cards that I’ve done….Yay!!  I actually get guilty when I have cards finished and not blogged, or, for that matter, images colored, but not on cards…..  It was high time that I made a masculine card…..I’m sure that I’m not the only one that shies away from male cards!!  I used this super cool image from Polkadoodles for this make.  This is Dinosaur 6 in the Sticks & Bones collection.  Before printing the image, I merged the sentiment on.  Anybody that works at the store that I worked at for years will recognize the sentiment…..every night at close, we did an announcement that ended with wishing the customers a “roaring great day/evening”  – so I made it fit with a dinosaur RAWR  🙂  After coloring the image with my Copics, and a few touches of white gel pen, I cut it out with a wonky stitch die…fussy cutting the tail to overlap.  I layered this on a piece of CS that I embossed with birthday words, some black scraps, a Frantic Stamper die cut, which goes so perfectly with the print on the base paper.  I brought it all together with some bakers twine that I wrapped around and tied.  I had a Rawr-ing great time making this card….hope you like it 🙂

Birthday Tunes

Good morning 🙂  After suffering yesterday with allergies, we got a nice rain last night, so I’m hoping that it will keep the pollen down, and I don’t spend a lot more time sniffling and sneezing!!  I made this sweet birthday card with a sweet image from LeAnn’s World 101. Ariel also happens to be the image for this month’s progressive challenge at the LeAnn’s World Facebook group 🙂  I colored her up with my Copic Markers, then fussy cut her out 🙂  I haven’t done a black/white/red color scheme card for a long time, and since it’s my favorite scheme, I figured it was time!! I bought this HUGE pack of black and white papers a few years ago, and it’s perfect to find coordinating papers.  I went with some plaid prints, leaving the dark red as accents and for matting.  I used this wonderful sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches as my guideline for layout:

After getting everything laid out, I added some musical die cuts in the red to make everything pop, and a stamped sentiment that I cut with a stacking fishtail banner die 🙂

A Party Without Cake

Hi there 🙂  As soon as I saw this adorable image from Sasayaki Glitter – I knew which stamp that I would use as the sentiment 🙂  I colored “Mia Wants to Say Happy Birthday” with my Copics, then cut the image out with a wonky stitched die.  I stamped the sentiment, from a set by Hampton Art, with some Distress Oxide ink.  After cutting some candles and a few buntings with Little B dies, I started layering everything on the card blank.  The Happy Birthday print paper had just enough glitter in it that some glitter touches, made with Nuvo drops, on the candles, buntings, and the stars in the image, accented everything perfectly.  Some hot pink dots with Nuvo finished the card off 🙂

The Flute Player

Hi there 🙂  Sometimes I have to go back through my files in order to remember some of the digi stamps that I’ve aquired through the years.  The last time I did that, I found folder containing the beautiful stamps by Art by MiRan.  When I originally got this image, Serenade, it was with the intention of making a card for a good friend who plays flute.  Then I forgot….until now 🙂  My friend is a ginger, so I took that into consideration when coloring this with my Copics and SN markers.  I found a cool 2 sided DP, and used both sides for the assembly of this card.  I also used scraps of silver mirror card for the music note die cuts, and some green scraps for the hanging vine cuts.  I’m really hoping that, with my “wonderful” memory, I remember that I have this card on hand when my friend’s birthday rolls around in December!! 🙂

Mermaid Mom and Baby

Time is just flying….at least for me….seriously, where did May go???  Not that I mind seeing the end of May coming, as it is the hardest month of the year for me, with my Mom passing on Mother’s Day some years ago 🙁  And, as a friend of mine said (lovingly), “It’s hard being a momma suck without a momma” – yep.

Anyhow….enough of me moping about, let’s get on with the good news….it’s time for a brand new challenge at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog!!!  This time, our theme is

Joyous Occasions

This can include any joyous occasion….birthday, Christmas, graduation, baby, new job, wedding, anniversary……you get the hint 🙂  Time to spread the joy!!

I made a New Baby Congratulations card for my inspiration piece.  The image that I used is from a coloring book Fishtank Fantasies that features some of Mitzi Sato-Wiuff’s work.  It is published by Ellen Million Graphics, and can be found here.  I was honored to receive this book…and others….when they were available in PDF format, as an anonymous gift from a special Secret Santa, thank you thank you thank you!!!  This image can also be found, without the background, as a set, HERE at the Aurora Wings Etsy store, and HERE at the Aurora Wings.com store.

As some of you know, I tend to print my images on the small side, but I’m too cheap to waste good paper and throw it out!!! Well, I really outdid myself when I printed this beauty out!!  I took a picture with a Copic Sketch marker as a reference:

When I realized her head was smaller than the end of a Copic marker, I almost reprinted the image….but I gave it my best shot and was thrilled with the amount of detail that I managed in the image 🙂  I added some highlights and accents with white gel pen, and some MS glitter pens.  I sponged on some Distress Oxide Ink between the swirly waves in the background.

I used some golden yellow CS to cut out some “bubbles”, and a die…. from …. I think it’s a Spellbinders set ….. to cut a pretty white rectangle to use as a layer.  I added some white Liquid Pearl accents, and a sentiment cut with a Tattered Lace die.  So happy with how this finally turned out 🙂

Beautiful Blue

Hi there 🙂  I had this image almost all colored up last month, then life hit…..you know how it goes… Well, I got it all colored and on a card now 🙂  The beautiful rose is from Make It Crafty, and is part of one of Zoe’s Floral Elements sets (#7).  I added the dew drops (for last month’s challenge….oops), while I was coloring the image with my Copics.

Afterwards, I fussy cut the rose out.  The background is embossed with a We R Memory Keepers folder, with an inlaid wreath die cut.  I used the same shimmery green paper to cut the wreath as I used to mat the background.  I added 2 little blue sparkle balls as an embellishment.  I tried a number of different methods to add a sentiment to the front of the card, but they all detracted from the design, so the birthday sentiment is on the inside 🙂  Love the simplicity of this, and how it makes the rose POP 🙂

Mr. & Mrs. Owl

Hello there 🙂  The 20th of the month brings the start of a brand new challenge at the Sheepski Designs Facebook group 🙂 Although we are an ATG challenge (using a Sheepski image, of course), Andrea likes to give an optional theme, and this month   it’s Fur, Feather or Wings.  I managed to cover two of those categories by working with Oliver and Olivia, image no54, from the Sheepski Designs Etsy store. To help out with any shopping that you may want to do at the shop, please feel free to use this discount code:  SKISUSAN10

After coloring this adorable owl couple with my Copics, I cut them out using a cool shaped stitched die.  To give the card a woodsy feel, I embossed a piece of kraft CS with a woodgrain embossing folder from We R Memory Keepers.  I cut out a heart cluster with a Simon Says Stamp design die, from a blue scrap, and inlaid a few of the hearts with the off cuts.  I had the kraft colored flowers in my stash for quite awhile…I grabbed them off of a clearance rack, then proceeded to hoard them 🙂  The white blooms are from a jar of blooms set that I’ve had for forever and a day.  I tried a number of different methods to add the Mr. & Mrs. sentiment, and wasn’t happy with how anything looked.  My alpha dies were way too big to use, and I was at the point of giving up on this particular design, when I remembered a small Merry Christmas die I have.  The letters are all separate, and lo and behold, the right letters are all there!!!  Woohoo!!!  I matted everything up and added gold Liquid Pearl accents to the centers of the white blooms, the heart between the Mr. and Mrs. and on the corners 🙂

Shine

Hello 🙂  I’m taking a break from enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having, to share my DT card for the latest ATG challenge at Creative Fingers.  Our sponsor this fortnight is Angelique, who has this lovely stamp set on offer as the prize 🙂

I had a play with a lovely image by Alicia Bel for my card. I colored Feather Fans up with my Copics and then fussy cut her out.  I used a wave design die by Avery Elle to cut a piece of black CS out that I layered over pink mirror card.  Between lighting and the lovely reflection of the mirror card, the colors ended up looking lilac-y, rather than their true pink 🙂  I used the same black to cut a stitched banner with a MFT die from a stacked set.  The word “shine” was cut with a Recollections die, from silver mirror card.  I dug into my stash of adhesive gems, and used a bunch of odd sized clear rhinestones, scattered across the background to emphasize the “shine” theme with bling 🙂  I’m thrilled with how this sassy card turned out…..perfect for an equally sassy lady’s special day!

Spring Flower Girl

Hello 🙂  I colored this lovely lady from Julia Spiri up a while ago, and figured it was high time I got her on a card! I colored The Flower Girl up with my Copic and SN markers, then fussy cut her out.  I really liked the sketch this week over at Tuesday Morning Sketches, so decided to use it again 🙂

I die cut the oval shape that I placed the image on, then found some corner dies from Cheery Lynn that went quite well with the design on the oval cut.  I glued these down on a pretty floral DP from my stash, then attached the image.  I used flowers from Wild Orchid (pink ones) and Petal Lu (yellow), as well as some die cut leaves to compliment the colors in the image.

Feel Better

Hey there 🙂  I’m here to show you my DT inspiration project for the new ATG challenge over at Creative Fingers.  We have a new sponsor for this challenge,

LeAnn’s World 101

I was given the super sweet image Cindy’s Umbrella, to use for my project.  After coloring her with my Copics, I cut the image out with a die and inked the edges with some Distress Ink.  For the layout of the card, I turned to the current sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches.

I embossed a plain white piece of CS and inked the edges for the background, then used doily quarters for the corner details.  I found a cute gingham ribbon flower, and added a small get well sentiment to finish the card off.  It’s always nice to have a few of these cards on hand, as illness is never planned, and a cheerful card does a bit to brighten a patients day 🙂
