Easter Mermaid

Hi there 🙂 I’m here with my first inspiration post for the challenge at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group. Our theme this month is Easter &/or Florals. There is a ton of images that fit this theme over at the CCK Etsy store, so be sure to check them out….we’d love to see your creation!! I’ve used Fantasy Easter Ocean, from THIS set, for my card. I colored it with my Copics, and added some accents with white Posca and a bit of glitter.

I dug around in my papers, and found the floral print that’s used for the background, and an egg print that I used for an additional layer. I matted the layers with Easter colored CS, and added a fishtail banner die cut when I layered everything up. The sentiment is stamped with a freebie stamp that I got from a magazine a few eons ago. I die cut some small pink blossoms to mirror the flowers in the image, and arranged them on the die cut strip and around some bunnies punched with a MS punch.

I wish that it looked as spring-y outside as this card looks, but I’m afraid we have a little while to go for that!!!

10th Birthday

Hi there 🙂 I hope that everyone is doing well. I’m sharing my DT inspiration for Creative Fingers Challenge today. All of our challenges are ATG……we love to see whatever you create!!! This time we have one of our amazing regular sponsors, Bugaboo Stamps. Jodie has images for every occasion in her store, so be sure to check it out!!! I used the fun Frame It Birthday for my card. I colored it up with my Copics, and added some accents with a white Posca. I cut a black and a red square out of card stock, and layered everything, tucking in some yellow streamers and green confetti. I die cut the number 10 twice, once in blue and once in black to give a shadow effect. I finished off by adding some dots and squiggles with my Posca and a black fineliner.

Aurora Wings March Showcase

Hi!!! What an exciting day it is today! Aurora Wings has a brand new release ….. and I’m proud to say that I’m now a member of the Showcase Team!!! Anyone that knows me, knows how exciting this is for me, as I’ve long been a huge fan of Mitzi’s images!! The showcase blog is full of yummy inspiration, featuring three new adorable Sprites (and if you keep reading….there might even be a little something extra!) These Sprites can be found in the New Release section at the Etsy Store and New Releases at AuroraWings.com, as well as at the individual links mentioned in the card descriptions. All my images were colored with Copics.

First up, I have Peony Sprite (PNG or JPG). I picked the paper before I started coloring her, so she’s a bit different color than what you commonly see in peonies. I had a massive peony crop at an old house of mine, and the blooms were every shade of pink and white…..some rich red ones like this little one would have been nice 🙂 After coloring her, I cut and matted her with some stacking dies, then set to assembling my card in a new to me fold 🙂 When folded up, the Sprite conceals the stamped sentiment, and the whole card is flat and easy to mail 🙂

I’d like to enter this into the following challenges:

Pammie’s Inky Pinkies – #2009 ATG

World Wide Open Design Team Challenge – #02 February/March ATG

Crafty Creations Challenge – #407 ATG

Next up is the adorable Dogwood Sprite (PNG or JPG). Although dogwood has a number of different color variations, I used the white with a hint of yellow, which is the provincial flower for my neighboring province, Alberta 🙂 With the pale coloring of the blossoms, I gave the Sprite some rich black hair as contrast. I used some dark printed papers for the layout as well, and embellished my card with a bunch of dogwood blossoms that I printed, colored and fussy cut out before arranging them on die cut branches. To give the edges a bit of interest, I actually used some edging scissors that have been collecting dust!! A die cut sentiment and some black pearls, finished the card off.

I’d like to enter this card in these challenges:

Incy Wincy Designs Challenge – March 2-16 Hand Colored Images

Lemon Shortbread Challenge – #114 ATG

Finally, I have the Agapanthus Sprite to share with you (PNG or JPG). I was not familiar with this beautiful flower, so did a bit of Googling, where I found that another name is Lily of the Nile….still not familiar, lol. How absolutely beautiful she is, and I really wish I lived in a warmer climate so I could grow some!!! After coloring her, I fussy cut her out, so I could pop her on the center part of a shimmery die cut layer. The silver part of the sentiment goes well with the rhinestone embellies on the branches….and I used some tiny alpha stickers to complete the sentiment.

I’d like to enter this card in the following:

As is always the case on new release weekend, Mitzi has some coupon codes for you to use to go shopping 🙂 These codes are valid the whole weekend on all current digi and PDF listings(not just the new releases!) at the Aurora Wings Etsy Store and AuroraWings.com.

No photo description available.

Oh, wait…what’s this I found???? hehehe

This adorable Popcorn Sprite is a gift with purchase this weekend!!!! This sweetie will be emailed to everyone that makes a qualifying purchase this weekend!! Woohoo!!!

No photo description available.

When I saw this Sprite, I thought of the traditional red and white popcorn box, and decided to create something quite literal, by making a box card!!! Luckily, I had the right red and white striped paper for this, and just had to print of the popcorn logo and color it. I also printed some extra heads and used the popcorn “hair” as some extra pieces in the box, along with the tickets that I printed and the Tim Holtz film strip. The sentiment was printed on my computer 🙂

I would like to participate in these challenges with this card 🙂

Ying Yang

Hello 🙂 It’s been a little while since I’ve had time to do a project that wasn’t for a DT!!! I turned to a favorite artist’s image, Mo Manning from Mo’s Digital Pencil. There seems to be an image for every occasion, and every person in her store! I will be needing an anniversary card for 2 cat lovers in a while, and how much more perfect is this Cat Love image?!?!?! I immediately thought of the ying yang symbol when I saw the two of them cuddled up like that, so I colored them with my Copics in black and white.

I found two black and white dot print papers, which made up the background. I made up the sentiment on my computer, printing it twice in opposite colors, cutting it in half and placing it on the opposing colors of the background. Everything was matted in red, and I used that same red to die cut a heart background, and use the little heart off cuts to scatter around the sentiment of this card 🙂

Anniversary Owls

Hi there 🙂 This is my last inspiration card for this month at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group. Our challenge theme this month is Love/Valentine’s/For Someone Special. I saw this image, Love Barn Owls, in the Etsy store, and immediately thought it would make a great anniversary card!! It’s a greyscale image, so it’s easier to color, as there is guidance with the shading already there!! I did it up in my Copics, then die cut it out so I could frame it with an inlaid die frame.

I found the cute heart print paper that made the perfect background for this card, then cut out some feathers in a blue that matches the feathers in the image (really, they do…..camera/photo is playing nasty tricks again!). After inking up the feathers, I arranged them so that the gold die cut sentiment could be placed on top of them.

Ivy Mermaid

Hi there 🙂 I’m here to share my DT inspiration for the current Creative Fingers challenge (bet you thought it was CCK Challenge, lol). Our fabulous sponsor this time is one of my favorites, Ching-Chou Kuik 🙂 I have used the gorgeous Ivy Mermaid image for my card, and colored her with Copics, adding a few accents and highlights with my white Posca.

I had all these big plans when I started, to use the ivy dies and embellishments that I have. Or should I say, THOUGHT I had, lol. All I could find was the stencil that I used!!!! I inked it with a few different colors of Distress Inks, then used a punch to round the corners to line up with the image shape. After inking the edges, I carefully sprinkled some silver embossing powder to coordinate with the die cut sentiment and flourishes. Some clear Nuvo drops scattered amongst the ivy, and around the image, finish this off 🙂

Gladioli

Hi there 🙂 Today, I have some inspiration for the current Sheepski Designs Facebook challenge. All of our challenges are ATG, but if you need a little bit of a nudge to get started, there’s always an optional theme, as well. This time, that option is Ribbons/Bows. I colored up the gorgeous Gladioli image with my Copics, in my very favorite glad color, deep red.

The background paper is some that I’ve had a long time, and it just jumped out at me. After layering things up, I added some thin red ribbon, in the same shade as the glads, then popped a red bow onto a printed, die cut one. To finish things off, I added a few square, red gems 🙂

2020 Calendar

Hey there 🙂 It’s Family Day holiday here in Saskatchewan, so I figured I had better use some of this free time to do up this blog post for my inspiration project for this month’s Aurora Wings Facebook challenge. Our challenges are ATG, either a coloring or a finished project…..plus….we love to see your past makes with Aurora Wings images, as well!!

A number of years ago, I started a “tradition” of making my own calendar, and for the last 3, these creations have featured images by Mitzi…the amazing artist behind Aurora Wings <3 As you might be able to guess, this year, I did a Sprite calendar!! There is seriously a Sprite for every occasion and season, and it’s sure to be a great year with these cuties frolicking their way through it 🙂 I do my calendars from February to January, to avoid any extra pressure over the Christmas holidays, but for this post, I’ll go in order and start with January 🙂

January in Saskatchewan is usually snowy and cold, so I chose the adorable Snowflake Sprite (HERE in the digi shop, and HERE on Etsy) to represent this month. The image is colored in Copics and framed with a die cut extended octagon (as are all the images for this year). I added a bit of sparkle and liquid pearl accents on this.

February is the month of hearts, so, of course I used the sweet Valentine’s Sprite (exclusively HERE in the digi shop). I added some faux sparkles on her dress with white Posca, and dressed up the hearts with Glossy Accents and red Stickles 🙂

Besides being my son’s birth month (no Landon Sprites yet, lol), March is St. Patrick’s Day month. I just had to make the adorable Shamrock Sprite (HERE in the digi shop and HERE on Etsy) an Irish beauty with red hair and freckles <3

This year, Easter falls in April, which makes the cuddly little Easter Bunny Sprite (exclusively HERE in the digi shop) the obvious choice 🙂

This Violet Sprite (exclusively HERE in the digi shop) had to be for May. For me, violets bring back special memories. Every year that my mom was alive, I would find some wild violets to give her. The year she passed away was a very late year, but I still was able to find some (the only?) violets to take to her in the hospital. Even though she was in a coma that she wouldn’t come out of, I believe that she knew <3

Like violets on Mother’s Day, lilacs were the bouquet that I would give my mom on her birthday at the beginning of June. So….here is Lilac Sprite (exclusively HERE in the digi shop).

July is my birth month, and a big reason why I started to make my own calendars. July’s picture is almost always the ugliest picture in a calendar, and I’d had enough of it!!!! Lol I figured that the sweet Ice Cream Sundae Sprite (exclusively HERE in the digi shop) was perfect for this month….I loooove ice cream, and this image is just the cutest!!!

August is just so full of flowers, and my old house was just so overrun with hollyhocks, that this sweetie was the perfect choice for this month!!! Hollyhock Sprite can be found HERE in the digi shop and HERE on Etsy 🙂

September is such a pretty month, with the leaves starting to change – some consolation for the the colder temps, and the knowledge of the long winter ahead!! Being a good Canadian girl, I had to use the playful Maple Sprite (HERE in the digi shop, and HERE on Etsy) for this month, and color her up in glorious autumn colors 🙂

Halloween has taken over the month of October, and everyone is getting their “scary” on. Pumpkin Sprite is way to cute to scare anyone, but still manages to convey the spirit of Halloween! He can be found exclusively HERE in the digi shop 🙂

Well, since there’s no Sprite for my eldest child, Eden, November is a tribute to Remembrance Day, and to all those who have fought for the freedoms that we enjoy today. I decided to color Anemone Sprite (HERE in the digi shop and HERE on Etsy) in poppy colors, and looove the end result!!

Well, that brings us to December, and the choices of Sprites for this month had me changing my mind numerous times! I finally settled on the beautiful Trumpet Angel Sprite. I highlighted some of the soft colors with a layer of clear sparkle. She can be found HERE in the digi shop and HERE on Etsy.

I’d like to enter this project in the following challenges :

Love Animals

Hey there 🙂 Hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day 🙂 As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I was seriously anti-Valentines/love/etc. this year, so had to go with some other interpretations for “Love” themed projects. This is my inspiration for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook challenge….with the theme of Love/Valentines/For Someone Special. Anyone that knows me, knows that I have a deep love of animals…..often preferring their company to that of many humans!! With that in mind, I thought that Ching-Chou’s image, “Furever Love“, would be the perfect choice to use for a decor piece. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to print the image on some old parchment like paper I have. OY!!! It was fun coloring and blending, with the old paper soaking the ink up (the back looks almost identical to the front)! I like the final result, though, as it does have a vintage look to it, but I won’t be trying it again in a big hurry!!! I tore the edges and inked them with Distress Ink to add to the look.

I had a wooden “canvas” in my stash that I’ve been waiting to use. I gave it a light coat of green paint, then distressed it with some brown stain. When this was dry, I stenciled some hearts with Distress Inks. Then I moved the stencil off a bit and did some with molding paste. While the molding paste was still wet, I sprinkled some gold embossing powder on parts of it and heated it up. The paw prints were die cut, then inked to give them some definition. They each represent an animal that I have been lucky enough to love <3 I die cut some outline hearts and sprinkled some gold and peach embossing powder on the, then added some Distress Ink after I embossed them. To finish the hearts, I added a layer of Ranger Sepia Accents (do they still make this stuff????). I dry embossed the center part of one of these hearts, then inked and heat embossed it. The piece needed a bit of color, so I punched some blossoms with a MS punch and arranged them on the hearts. The sentiment is one I printed on the computer….perfect for this image, and something I believe strongly! After I had everything attached to the canvas, I sprayed the whole thing with an acrylic fixative. This was so there would be no smudging and smearing when I layered on a coat of Mod Podge to seal everything up. While the Mod Podge was still wet, I sprinkled some gold beads here and there around the image to give a final touch. The Mod Podge gave the image a painted look that I love!!

I attached some eyelet screws to the sides of the piece, then tied on some twine for hanging. Loved getting all inky with this piece!!! I really have to remember to make a mess more often, lol!

All You Need…..

Hi there 🙂 I’m here with my inspiration for this month’s Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group challenge. Our theme is Love/Valentines/For Someone Special. I’m in an anti-Valentine mode this year…sorta “humbug” on love too, tbh. But the show must go on, and there is so many ways to interpret the Love theme 🙂 I love books, so I got the idea for a bookmark utilizing this sweet image, The Moment. I was going to have the sentiment refer to coffee, as that’s my bevvy of choice, but went with tea, so I could throw this in with a friend’s bday gift (a book, of course!). I printed the image and sentikment on kraft paper, and got my Prismacolor pencils out. Had fun with the tiny little image, but got her done, and cut out a bookmark with a fishtail banner die.
