Sympathy Assortment

Hi, I don’t usually make a post featuring more than one project, but I’m making an exception here. I vowed to blog all the cards I made this year, and with Christmas fast approaching, I have to take a few shortcuts!! I recently got an order for sympathy cards, a real challenge for me, as it is for a lot of card makers! Of course I didn’t have any on hand so I got to work, and here they are 🙂

This one is a more masculine card, featuring an image from DRS Designs, called Long Tall Cattails. I colored it up with my Copics, then blended in some Distress Ink in the background. I stamped a nice sentiment, then tied a ribbon around the bottom before adhering it to a plaid background paper. There was some gold foil lines in the plaid, so I punched some tiny dragonflies from gold mirror card to finish this off.

Polkadoodles Craft Challenge – Week 48 ATG

This one features a favorite image from Sheepski Designs. I thought Forget Me Knot would be lovely on a sympathy card, as it expresses a sentiment with it’s name. I colored this with my Copics, then cut it out with an oval die. I matted the image, and die cut the sentiment in a pale gray, to coordinate with the woodgrain background paper.

DL Art – November Linky Challenge

This card features an image from Sami Stamps, which has sadly closed up shop. When printing it, I added the sentiment as well. After coloring the image, I found a background paper with a subtle print, and matted everything in silver mirror card. A simple line of silver pearls added the finishing touch.

Digi Choosday Crafting Challenge – Week 47 ATG

This card has a religious feel to it, with the praying hands image, that I got years ago from a store called Stichy Bear Stamps – another one that has closed. I colored the image up with my Copics, then fussy cut it out. I mounted it on an oval cut from one side of double sided DP. I used the print on the other side for the background, and added a strip of embossed grey cardstock. The sentiment was hand stamped. Before gluing all the layers together, I inked all the edges of the pieces for a bit of definition.

Dare 2B Artzy – November – Non Birthday

This last card took a few turns from what I was envisioning, but ended up being my favorite of the bunch!! I used a rose image from A Day For Daisies (not finding it in the store anymore, though), and colored it up with my Copics. Before I colored, I stamped and embossed the sentiment. I wanted a white on white effect, but my white embossing powder looked more cream on the stark white background paper – so that re-defined how the card was going to look! After matting the image with a cream cardstock, it was still needing “something”, so I used a MS lace border punch (!!!) to edge both the image and the mat.

  1. A beautiful collection of sympathy cards, Susan. The one you entered into the Crafts Galore Encore challenge has such elegance and I love the lacy scalloped edge and the white on white embossing. Beautiful work!

  2. I like the simplicity of the religious card. I just used an image from Stitchy Bear Stamps and remembered that they had closed. Your other sympathy cards are lovely too. Thank you for entering the Anything Goes Challenge at Lil Patch of Crafty Friends.

  3. Beautiful selection and a perfect choice of images.

Thanks for joining us at Penny’s Paper Crafty Challenge Blog.
