Dragonfly Smile

Hi there! Running a bit behind here, but it’s still Sunday, so I’m still “legal” with my inspiration post for the challenge at Ching-Chou Kuik’s Facebook group 🙂 This month, our theme is Make Your Own Background. There are so many cool techniques out there and this is a great time to try out a new one, or show us one of your old favorites 🙂 I saw this technique on a friend’s card, and thought I would try it….You ink up a piece of paper….I used 4 different blue Distress Inks for my card…..then die cut it…..and use the off cuts. Since I just looked at a picture, I did the “wing it” thing when trying to emulate it….I cut the background out twice, once with the inked paper, and once with a scrap piece. I used the actual die cut of the scrap piece, and attached it with some repositionable tape. Then I went to work filling in the spaces with the off cuts from the inked piece, using foam dots to pop them up and give them dimension.

This shows the dimension a bit better.

When I showed a picture to my friend and told her how I did it, she laughed….a lot. Apparently there’s a tutorial somewhere that is way easier than my fiddly method. I don’t have a link to it right now…..but will add it as soon as I find it 🙂 I colored up the beautiful Drifting Soul from Ching-Chou’s store with my Copics and then fussy cut it out.

I adhered it to the blank spot in the background, then added a small die cut “smile” sentiment. For a cute, balancing touch, I punched some tiny dragonflies, then added glitter to them, as well as the dragonfly in the image 🙂
