On the Farm

Hello!  It’s time for another challenge over at C.R.A.F.T.  This time our theme is Shaped Cards (not square or rectangular).  Of course we have a generous sponsor for the challenge, and this week it’s

Melonheadz Doodles

I used elements from the Wash Day set for my card. I merged the cow and the barn, then printed them off “card size”.  After coloring them with my Prismacolors, I carefully cut it out, so the card was actually the shape of the image 🙂  I hope you can join us, and show us your shaped cards this week 🙂

Trick or Treat

Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends 🙂  Best advice for Thanksgiving that I can give: eat the turkey, don’t BE the turkey…..and remember that there is so very much to be grateful for <3

I have another Halloween card here, using one of Aurora Wings‘ Sprites…Pumpkin Sprite. I colored this up with my SN markers, and couldn’t help smiling as I did so, because a memory from when I was a child came to me.  I was playing outside on our farm, and ventured into the garden, when I saw these gorgeous yellow orange flowers.  They were mostly hidden by the big leaves of the plant, so I didn’t see any reason that I couldn’t pick a bouquet and surprise my mom.  After figuring out a way to avoid prickling myself, I managed to pick ALL of the flowers, and ran into the house with my surprise.  The look on my Mom’s face!!!  She wasn’t too appreciative that I had just gifted her with her pumpkin crop…..long before it was pumpkins, or a crop!!  To this day, I love the blooms of a pumpkin, but now, I know better than to pick!!

Ok, enough of a trip down memory lane….after coloring, I fussy cut the Sprite and the kitty out, and set them aside.  I used some Black Magic CS, with the green core, for the background.  I hand embossed around a die to make a simple frame on the card, then VERY carefully sanded it.  I swiped the sandpaper around the edges, then stuck the image down.  I dug out my alpha punches (!!!) for the sentiment, and added a few yellow sequins.  Everything was placed on a yellow orange card base 🙂

Creepy Crawly

Hi there 🙂  In the past, I’ve never been really “into” Halloween cards, as it wasn’t an occasion that my family ever exchanged cards for.  But this year, I’ve ventured into “the dark side” of cardmaking, and am LOVING it!!!  This card features the image “Spooky Blue” from Ching-Chou Kuik.  I colored her up with my Copic and SN markers, then added some Wink of Stella to the spiderwebs in the background.  After distressing the edges, I inked them in red Distress Ink.  A few years ago, I managed to grab some Black Magic card stock from Coredinations, and have been hoarding it ever since.  I dug it out for this project, and used the purple core paper, tearing the edges and sanding it a bit, to provide a matting for the layers.  The background paper is a piece that I had in my stash.  I cut the spiders and spiderweb with an unbranded die, then added Wink of Stella to the web.  The sentiment is one that I printed on my computer….after I went on a search for a spooky font….and ended up with almost 60 new ones!! Ooops 🙂

Coffee :)

Good morning 🙂  Today marks the start of a new ATG Challenge at Creative Fingers.  Our sponsor is the one and only Bugaboo Stamps!

For my card, I used the Coffee Word Art image. After printing it out on some tan CS, I cut it out, then adhered it to a coffee bean print DP.  The other side of the coffee bean print was a coffee word print, so I used that as my background.  Everything was matted with black CS, and I added a tag with a cute coffee sentiment stamped on it (can’t remember the maker of this particular set).  A few adhesive embellishments in the corners provided a bit of balance to the card design.

Holy Cow!!

Hi there!  I’ve had a number of digital stamp packs from AMB Illustrations for quite some time now, and it was time to put some to use!  I used both the Farm Animal Faces and the Farm Animals sets with this card.  I had this (not so) bright idea to merge the cow heads on the “O’s” of the sentiment….cool huh?? Not!! Those suckers were smaller than the end of my Copic lid!!! Fun times, coloring them!! LOL  I still love the effect, though 🙂  I cut the sentiment out with a stitched square die and put it aside until I was done the rest.  For the background, I merged the full cow body onto some cow print digital background paper.  After coloring it with Copics and SNs, I outlined it with a white gel pen to give it a bit more definition.  This, I matted with a piece of white, that I’d run over the edges with a sewing tracing wheel (as I don’t have a stitched die that size, and wanted the stitching effect to carry through).  After adhering the sentiment, I decided to go with no embellishments, and leave it CAS.  The inside of the card says “you’re THAT old?”

Feeling Ducky

Good morning, and Happy October (!!!) to you 🙂  I recently got this cute die from a page that sells amazing unbranded dies, at an even more amazing price! I had to use it ASAP, so did a quick look through of my digi files, and found these images from the Mother’s Day Ducks set at Scrap N’ Dipity.  I colored the ducks up with my SN markers, then fussy cut them out.  When cutting the background with the die, I extended it to make it a bit bigger, then glued it onto a darker blue background.  The sentiment is one that I printed out, then I ran a sewing tracing wheel along the edges before affixing it to the card.  Some colorful dots that I made by melting cheapo plastic pony beads from the dollar store.  I had some duckies left over, and wanted to continue with the sentiment on the inside

Fall Friends

Good morning 🙂   Yesterday was so cold and windy here, but I guess I shouldn’t complain, as some communities to the west of us got snow….and lots of it!!  I guess winter comes, but the drivers – that’s what I dread the most 🙁  But for now, I’m going to enjoy fall, and the beautiful colors, like I have here on this card.  I used Autumn Joy from The Paper Shelter for it.  I just love the look on the boy’s face 🙂  I colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils, then cut it out with an unbranded stitched rectangle die.  I had just the scrap of paper for the background, as the leaves in the DP and the leaves in the picture coordinated perfectly.  I cut a few strips for the top layer, and then die cut the 3 layered banners with a die (from – I can’t remember).  To add just a bit more Fall fun to the card, I punched out some colorful leaves with a Fiskars corner punch 🙂

Eyes

Hi there 🙂  It must be a Saturday afternoon, shortly before the close of an Aurora Wings challenge??? Here I am, with my last minute entry 🙂  I’ve been working on it, here and there, for a while, but finally had the time today to get everything to “gel” properly on paper 🙂  This time, the challenge theme is “Crop It”….which I thought was so cool.  I used the image Elven Princess.  Her eyes are so mesmerizing, that they had to be the focal point!! The gorgeous flowers at the bottom of the image were perfect for a border for this card, as well!  I colored the relevant parts of the image with SN and Copic markers, then fussy cut the flowers out.   I found a sentiment that seemed to fit the whole feel of the card perfectly, and printed it out on the top layer, then placed the flowers under it.  I used a curvy cutter….from Creative Memories, to cut the curved pieces that allow the eyes to show through, then, after placing the pieces, edged them in small adhesive rhinestones. I added a few more rhinestones, and matted the whole thing in a pale blue…..then called it finished – just in time 😉

Thumbelina

Good morning everyone 🙂  Well, it’s back to work for me today, after a very nice week off 🙂  I made this card, after being inpsired by the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group‘s challenge, of Once Upon A Time.  I thought “Thumbelina”, as soon as I looked at this sweet image, Garden Daisy Fairy, by Ching-Chou Kuik. I colored her up with my SN markers, keeping to an autumnal color scheme, then cut the image out with a stiched die (unbranded).  I searched through my papers, to find a pattern that was a bit reminiscent of an old book, and found this one….I don’t know why it reminded me of a book, but it works 🙂  Then I got the brilliant idea (yes, that was sarcastic) to do some inlaid die cut corners (Cheery Lynn corner die) out of some metallic CS.  Ugh!!! Those pieces are so so so tiny, I was really giving myself heck for that bright idea by the end of it!!  The flowers are from my “scavenged” bin….ones that I’ve picked off of other items or silk flowers that I’ve dismantled.  I stacked the fluffy one, and gave it a brown brad centre, then stacked the other ones….and couldn’t find an appropriate centre.  I have some old brads, they are white fabric, with black letters on them….of course there are no “good” letters left, so I grabbed some of them, and colored some of them with a dark brown marker.  The letter still showed through, though, so I dabbed them in embossing ink, then dipped them in some Distress embossing powder, and TaDa….they even have some texture 🙂  I die cut some leaves (unbranded die) and tucked a few blue sprigs around the flowers, to finish the front of the card.  This card seemed to be the perfect opportunity to try a fold that I’ve never done before, but have been eyeing up.

This book fold 🙂  It was a bit “math-y” for me, but not so much so that it will put me off doing it again.  I printed off the once upon a time, and a fairytale birthday sentiment on some parchment printed paper, and cut them out with some of the stitched dies….for the “pages”, then added the last few flowers and leaves I had…..these flower centers are flat, but I did the same thing with the embossing 🙂  I was very happy with the result of this card 🙂  Hope you like!!

Autumn Dreamer

Hi there 🙂  I’m really on a fall roll, card wise, here.  Must be the weather outside 😉  I’ve used the image Golden Fall, by Ching-Chou Kuik, for this card.  I colored her up with my SN markers, then did the background sky with my Prismacolor pencils.  I dug through A LOT of paper, before I found the subtle orange print for the background, and then…lo and behold, some lace paper, that I just HAD to have….about 4 years ago, lol.  A bit of green CS was also tucked in.  I wrapped a circle die cut with some eyelash yarn, then took the same yarn to make a strip along the bottom, and under the wooden pumpkin embellishment, that’s been floating around in my craft room for an infinity or two.
