Turtle Tag Surprise

Hi there!!! Today I have a cute little project that features Sasayaki Glitter‘s adorable image Birthday Turtle.  I colored the image with my Copics and SNs, then cut it out with a stitched rectangle die from Gina K.  I hummmed and hawwwed about what to do with this cutie, when I came up with the idea of a gift card holder with a twist!

I assembled the envelope part, layering some pieces CS that I embossed with a Happy Birthday folder, then inked with Distress Inks.  After it was assembled, I attached the image.  I die cut a tag with a stitched die, from PoppyStamps, I think,  that was slightly larger than the image, and the perfect size to hold a gift card.  I added a pretty sheer ribbon to the tag, then tucked it in to the holder 🙂  I’m loving this, as it gives a bit of pizzazz to a plain old gift card (although, GCs are my favorite gift, lol).

All Star Tag

Good morning!!! It’s a good morning here….now that my internet is working properly!! It’s both amazing and scary how much we come to depend on it!  It’s also time for a brand new ATG challenge at the Creative Fingers Challenge Blog! We are sponsored by the amazing LeAnn’s World 101.

I’ve been incredibly swamped with projects lately, as I fell behind when my kid came to visit for a week…I’m so used to being on my own that I swear, my world fell off it’s axis!!!! LOL    Anyway, I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone with this challenge, and use the current image for LeAnn’s progressive challenge for my project 🙂  I colored up Raquet Randi with my Copics and then fussy cut her out.  I thought this was the perfect time to implement the red, white and blue color scheme.  I’m Canadian, so our colors are red and white only, so we’re often left in the dust with the wonderful 4th of July projects that our American friends create!!  I added a Tim Holtz die cut scribble, and some white off cut stars from a Frantic Stamper die to a stitched tag.  I found a few little stickers to finish it off, and added a pretty white ribbon for a tie 🙂

I’d like to enter the following challenges with this:

Look At You, Cockatoo!

Hello there 🙂  Ever have one of those days when you want to just scream??  My internet has been so sporadic yesterday and today that I could do just that!!!  Hopefully, it cooperates for long enough so I can get this post up!!!  I was inspired by the latest challenge at Make It Crafty when making this card, as well as a friends beloved pet bird, Caesar 🙂  I used the amazing Cockatoo digi stamp from Make It Crafty as the focal point of my project.  I was lucky that Caesar sat and posed for a picture, so I could study how his feathers fell, lol!  After coloring the image with my Copics, I fussy cut it out.  I was sure that I had a leaf background die, but my memory was playing tricks on me, so luckily, I had the leaf print DP, that worked almost as well for the tropical feel I was going for.  I dug around and finally came up with some odd blooms that I layered up to resemble hibiscus, for the bird to peeking out from.  I die cut a frame from foil CS (still so difficult to photograph this stuff, even when it’s such a small bit of the card!), some leaves, and a birthday sentiment…..for Caesar’s mom, of course!!!

Summer Days

Hello 🙂  It’s really feeling like summer here in central Canada now, unfortunately, work gets in the way of beach days!!! The image that I used for this card is from LeAnn’s World 101, and is called Kate at the Beach (lucky Kate!!!)  I colored her up with my Copic markers, then rounded 2 of the corners with a corner rounding punch.  I found this piece of bright, wavy printed paper in my stash, and it must be a minimum of 10-12 years old!!! I die cut some rounded banners and some palm trees, then layered up the image with them, using a scrap of yellow for matting.  For a finishing touch, I used some of the melted pony beads that I made. A quick and easy summer card, perfect for wishing a student or teacher a fantastic break from classes!!

The Brides

Wow, if anyone can tell me where the days are going this year, I’d really appreciate it!!! It’s already the third Monday in June, which means it’s the start of a new challenge at Aurora Wings Challenge Blog!  We have a fun theme this time

No automatic alt text available.

 – be inspired by a fairy tale.  As usual, there are prizes to be won for Artist’s Choice, Random and Top 3!!  I must admit that I wasted more than a little bit of time during slow times at work…reading fairy tales online!! I’ve always been drawn to the little known tales that the team at Disney has overlooked 🙂  I found The White Bride and the Black One (tale 135) by The Brothers Grimm (click link for synopsis), and immediately knew which images I could use!!  I used Bridal Veil, which can be found HERE on Etsy, and HERE on Aurorawings.com; and Ghost Bride, which can be found exclusively HERE on Aurorawings.com.

So now, on to my project 🙂  As is so often the case, I started with an idea, then changed my mind when that didn’t work, came up with another idea….wrecked COUNTLESS pieces of card stock before abandoning that one as well…panicked for a day or two, then finally settled on something as far from the first two ideas as possible, LOL.  I don’t know if it’s an art journal (never understood the concept) or just a mixed media piece…..but I had a BLAST doing this!!! I used soooooo many supplies that I forgot I had, and got so messy, it was great!  After coloring both images with my Copics, I added some liquid pearl and stickle accents to the white bride, and some Nuvo drop and stickle accents to the dark one.

I happen to have a full set of antique Book of Knowledge books…..I grabbed them for my crafts when my mom passed away, and had cut and torn into a number of them before being informed by an antique dealer friend that they were very rare, and worth thousands……big oops!!!  I must admit, they come in very handy, and I would have spent the money by now anyway 🙂  I’m not sure the order in which I used most of the stuff that I used on the pages, but I know that there was paint, stencils, Distress Inks, Glimmer Mist sprays, Mica Flakes, some gold and silver UTEE embossing powders, texture paste…..hmmmm…..along with washi tape and lace…..and stickles and liquid pearls….all used on the page backgrounds…..I printed the two sayings out on my computer and affixed them to the appropriate sides after inking the edges.

I  must say, I had more fun with this project than I’ve had with anything I’ve done for quite a while.  From reading all those stories, to getting all messy, this was a true joy to do!!! I hope that I’ve inspired you in some way, and that you can find some time to join us with your interpretation of Once Upon A Time – Inspired by FairyTales….. at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog 🙂

Birthday Bike

Hi there 🙂  This card was sort of bittersweet to make.  Sweet, because I used a KennyK stamp (and I’ve neglected my KennyK collection for far too long!), and bitter, because the store is closed, and the stamps are no longer available 🙁   I colored up Bike Kid with my Copic and SN markers, then die cut the image out, leaving the front of the bike wheel overhanging, to imply movement.  I used this fabulous sketch from Feeling Sketchy as inspiration for the layout

The background paper that I used is so old…..years and years ago, I used to do A LOT of online swapping, in a swap community that I belonged to.  This paper was a piece that I received back then….so it’s at least 12 – 15 years old!!! I cut the Happy Birthday sentiment with a Poppy Stamps die, and wrapped twine around the top, middle and bottom of the base.  I cut some banner shapes with a die from an Elizabeth Craft set, and attached them to the back of the image.  I then popped up the entire middle part with some foam dots, and glued everything to a blue background.  It was great fun making this card, and so nice to have another masculine card handy 🙂

Sunshine and Laughter

Good morning 🙂  This card reminds me of yesterday….rain AND sun.  We need both, so it was quite nice 🙂  I used one of Whimsy Stamps adorable digital stamps as the focal point of this project.  I colored Penguin’s Rainy Day up with my Copic and SN markers, then fussy cut them out.  I knew that I wanted to use the splash die, from Memory Box, as soon as I saw the image.  I cut it out twice, then inlaid the darker blue parts.  I used a set of MFT stitched cloud dies to cut the clouds from 2 different gray pieces, then tucked a sun die cut peeking from between them.  I stamped the sentiment on a Lawn Fawn banner cut and I was done 🙂  This was a nice quick card to give as a pick me up to someone that isn’t feeling 100% – and I have just the person in mind!! 🙂

Motorcycle Dad

Hi there 🙂  I recently had an order for a Father’s Day card featuring a motorcycle.  I’ve done a few in the past for the same person, and wanted to avoid using the same thing over and over.  My friend had this die of a motorcycle, and when I saw the sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday2

I got an idea, and called my friend up to borrow said die 🙂  I turned the sketch, and changed up the image shape – I had no dies that came anywhere near that shape, lol, and the oval, from a Nellie Snellen nesting set, seemed to “fit” the motorcycle quite nicely.  I used some alpha dies to spell out “DAD”, mounted the letters on circles that were also cut with Nellie Snellen dies, and matted everything up.  I love how sharp and crisp this card turned out!  This is a fabulously versatile sketch, and I found, great for using up scraps that you may have!

Retro Pink

Good morning 🙂  Another pink card from me today….don’t know what’s getting into me lately with the pink!!!  I have an excuse for this one, as it’s for an order for a lady that loves the color 🙂  I looked all over for the right image to use, to fit the recipients tastes….and found this lovely at The Paper Shelter.  I cropped Barbershop, before printing and coloring her with Copics.  I saw this sketch, at Cheerful Sketches Challenge, and decided to use it for my layout.

I turned to a pad of DCWV papers for my choices of prints, and went with the bold pinks and blacks that coordinate with the image.  After cutting all the pieces for the sketch out, I embellished the card with a pink rose and some die cut blossoms over a few ribbon pieces, and went to town with the bling! 🙂  I’m sure the birthday girl will love this blingy pink retro lady 🙂

Rawr-ing Great Day

Hello 🙂  I’m almost caught up with blogging the cards that I’ve done….Yay!!  I actually get guilty when I have cards finished and not blogged, or, for that matter, images colored, but not on cards…..  It was high time that I made a masculine card…..I’m sure that I’m not the only one that shies away from male cards!!  I used this super cool image from Polkadoodles for this make.  This is Dinosaur 6 in the Sticks & Bones collection.  Before printing the image, I merged the sentiment on.  Anybody that works at the store that I worked at for years will recognize the sentiment…..every night at close, we did an announcement that ended with wishing the customers a “roaring great day/evening”  – so I made it fit with a dinosaur RAWR  🙂  After coloring the image with my Copics, and a few touches of white gel pen, I cut it out with a wonky stitch die…fussy cutting the tail to overlap.  I layered this on a piece of CS that I embossed with birthday words, some black scraps, a Frantic Stamper die cut, which goes so perfectly with the print on the base paper.  I brought it all together with some bakers twine that I wrapped around and tied.  I had a Rawr-ing great time making this card….hope you like it 🙂
