Elegant Christmas Tags

Hi there 🙂  I have something very different from what I’ve been doing lately to share today.  First, it’s a set of tags….something I rarely make….and second….and this is the big difference….is that there are no stamped images on these.  I was inspired by the challenge at UnstampaBelles….no stamping…..wow, harder than I thought it would be!!!  I die cut 4 white tags, then embossed them with 4 different folders.  My poor old Cuttlebug then got a workout that it hasn’t got for a very long time….if ever.  I used Tim Holtz, Little B, and Cheery Lynn dies….just to name a few (I can’t remember the other ones’ makers), using gold glitter paper and gold foil paper.  I got them all done, using both the foil and glitter on each to give each some definition.  I finished these with some shimmery white ribbon and gold twine to tie 🙂

I’d like to enter these in the following:

Purple Poppies

Good morning 🙂  It’s a beautiful fall Sunday here, and Thanksgiving weekend in Canada as well.  After a few threats of snow, the weather has (typically) settled down for a bit, to let us enjoy the beauty of autumn.  With it being Sunday, it’s my turn to post some inspiration for the current challenge in the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group.  Our theme for the month of October is Halloween/Halloween colors….which coincides nicely with the blog challenge theme of Halloween.  October is a very special month for Ching-Chou, as it is her 4th anniversary for the blog, as well as the Facebook group.  As part of the celebration, she is offering extra prizes in both challenges, as well as a gorgeous free image to anyone that enters!!!

I’m still not feeling too Halloween-y, so I opted with the colors instead of the season.  I used one of the newer images available at the store, called Poppy In Blue.

I colored this beauty with my Copics, then began layering it up with assorted papers in the Halloween color scheme.  The black background is embossed with an embossing folder from my stash.  I used some prints from a Halloween paper pad  to die cut some banners, and cut the other elements of the card.  Once I had everything glued down, I added some purple and an orange adhesive gem as embellishments.

I would like to enter the following challenges with this card:

It’s A Panda-corn :)

I saw this image, from The Paper Shelter, and just knew I had to have it….I even had JUST the person to make a card for with it!  I have an “adopted” daughter, who loves pandas.  We are also Momma Bear and Kiddo Bear to each other, so it’s a win win all the way around <3  The image is I Am A PandaCorn – Deal With It! and I colored it with my Copics.  Afterwards, I fussy cut him out.  The rainbow spotted paper I used as a background showed the little guy off to perfection, I thought.  Because some of the spots were gold foil, I decided to carry that through in the matting and the die cut sentiment.  I also used a coordinating green CS for an additional mat, and to inlay the lower part of the die cut.  When I was rummaging through my stuff to find a yellow centre for the flower, I came across the mushroom embellishment as well…..Perfect fit!!!

After finishing the card, I actually got it in the mail!!!! This is a big step for me, lol….  She may not get it in time…..but at least she will get it this year!! Next year, we’ll work on the timing 😉

Celebrate!

Hi there!!! This month is very special, as it’s a celebration at both the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group, and at the Ching-Chou Kuik blog 🙂 We are celebrating 4 years!!!  As with most celebrations, there are some goodies involved 🙂  The prizes this month in the challenges are as follows:

FOUR Random winners on the Blog
The usual Artist Choice Award winner on the Blog
FOUR Random winners on the Facebook Group
The usual Artist Choice Award winner on the Facebook Group
The usual two Top 2 winners on the Facebook Group
AND…..there is a gorgeous FREE image for everyone that enters the Blog Challenge or the Facebook Challenge. Ching-Chou has created Fresh Blue, a stunning greyscale image for this celebration.
The DT members were given the opportunity to make a project with this gorgeous image as inspiration….and encouragement 😉  I was thrilled to do so!!!
I decided to go with a monochrome sepia look for her when I colored her up with my Copics.
Since the color scheme was quite limited, I used more embellishments than I may normally use.  I started with a background paper with a burlap print, and paired it with some tan and some dark brown papers.  I distressed the edges of the darker paper before assembling.  I layered a piece of lace on the cross piece and then added a torn die cut lacy part to peek out from behind the image.  Some pearl swirls balanced out the rest of the corners.  I die cut the sentiment multiple times to add some depth, then plunked a few pearls on the underlying die cut pieces.  I hope this inspires you to join in our challenge this month….both the Facebook and Blog’s themes are Halloween, so it’s very seasonal 🙂  Bonus is, you get a free image at the end, and great chances at prizes!!! Come help us celebrate 🙂

H20

Hi there 🙂  I’m back with a mid-challenge inspiration project for the current Aurora Wings Challenge blog 🙂  Our theme this time is

Image may contain: sky

I figured I would take a different route with my project, and, instead of using a song, use an album as my inspiration.  Being an 80’s girl, I was a fan of Hall and Oates, and their H20 album was big when I was in high school.  Luckily, my vinyl collecting friend had a spare copy of this very album, which I actually used as the base for my project 🙂

H20 being water, what else would I use but one of Mitzi’s spectacular mermaid images?  This time, I chose La Mer, available exclusively at the Aurorawings.com shop.  After coloring this beauty up with my Copics, I fussy cut her out and set her aside while I prepared the album base.

I had a few albums to practice on, as it’s been years since I’ve heated records up to make bowls or other projects, and I didn’t want to wreck the actual H20 album.  Well….well, well, well…..I really don’t know why I keep having these near catastrophic “things” happening with my DT projects….but this one was a doozy.  I put the album into my heated oven, and emptied my dishwasher.  I smelled something funny, looked in the oven and:

OMG!!  Not good!! First, it stunk, bad BAD!!  Second, I live in a rented apartment….nuff said. Third, it was all over the burner and racks and everything!!  Fourth, even after the oven cooled, I can’t just snap the plastic off….vinyl apparently melts and cooks in a “special” way.  This will take some time to figure out…..hopefully I can figure something out, or this will officially be the most expensive DT project ever!!! …..  HOWEVER, being the optimist, and focusing on the positive, it WAS a practice album, and I knew what NOT to do.  I got out my heat gun, and TADA!!! Worked like a charm!!! (note:  I did not use a heat gun when making album bowls…so I don’t know what happened).  I heated and bent and rippled the album until I was happy with the random appearance that I came up with.  I positioned the mermaid image, which I popped up fairly high to allow for the decorations, so that the space between her tail and body showed the album title.  I then added Spanish Moss, an assortment of seashells and star fish, some pretty green dried things that I had in my stash, pearls, some greenery,  and liquid pearl accents.

I am thrilled beyond belief with this…and will keep looking at it….because I like it, and to avoid that other “stuff” that has to be attended to….  I know I’ll laugh at what happened someday….but not today….or tomorrow….and bets are off for next week as well!!!

Dragonfly Dreams

Good morning 🙂  This card is my mid-challenge inspiration for the special month long challenge over at Creative Fingers Challenges.  We are being sponsored by the absolutely FABULOUS Christine Karron 🙂  She has given us 2 packs for the DTs to choose images from, and the lucky winner gets their choice of one of the packs (unless they use a Christine Karron image in their project….then they get BOTH).  Her images are incredibly stunning, and most are available in both greyscale and line art versions.  I’ve used the lineart of the Dragonfly Fairy, available both individually, and as part of a set. I colored her with Copics, trying to give her a glow……

With such a striking image, I wanted to keep it rather simple again….and went with plain black CS, that I stamped and heat embossed little dragonflies onto.  The inside of the card, that shows through, thanks to the design, has a strip of shimmery green CS, that I stamped and embossed the sentiment on.

I’m thrilled with the outcome, seeing as how I started with an image that was about 2 3/4″ x 3 3/4″, I think I still managed to keep it the focal point of the card 🙂

Smile

Hi there!!! Another month has flown by, and it’s the start of another new challenge at the Sheepski Designs Facebook group.  All of our challenges are ATG, with an optional theme, if you need help deciding on which image from the Sheepski shop to use.  This month, our optional theme is “Frame It”.  I’ve used the beautiful Fuchsias. I colored it up with my Copics, with a very definite idea in mind.

However, it was verrrry early in the morning, and the coffee hadn’t kicked in yet, so my plans quickly went awry!!  My initial cut when trimming the image was way off, so I decided to crop it all the way around and frame it like that.  I die cut a pretty frame from some shimmery silver paper, and placed the image at an angle on some embossed (you have to look really hard to see the embossed stripes…..the joys of photography!!) background paper that was matte with the same silver as the frame.  I die cut numerous “smiles”, glued them all together for dimension, then colored it with one of the same Copic colors used on the image.  I added some sparkle to the word, before coating the whole thing with Glossy Accents.

A few silver pearls balance everything out and finish the card off nicely 🙂

Puppy Love

Well, I’m wearing a different hat today at Aurora Wings Challenge Blog,  I get to step in as a Guest Designer with the Stella Team 🙂  I was asked to be a GDT before I joined the Aurora Team, so I am fulfilling “obligations”(the best kind of obligation!), while getting to play extra with Mitzi’s fabulous images 🙂  Our theme this time is

Image may contain: text

Let me tell you, the little voices were singing up a storm in my head, and I must have changed my mind a hundred times!!! However, I settled on “Puppy Love”, composed and originally performed by Paul Anka, but I remember drooling over Donny Osmond singing it 😉

I chose the adorable Puppy Sprite, available exclusively at the AuroraWings.com shop.  The Sprite, I colored like my pup, Java

and the rest of the little guys are colored to resemble the markings of my dogs from the past <3  I fussy cut the image out, then started building a house.  I used a number of different templates that I found online and adjusted them to make it my own.  I found the log house pattened paper, which I thought was perfect to do the main “construction” with.  I die cut a bunch of “shingles”, then edged them in Distress Ink.  The trim boards are pieces of a dark brown wood grain paper that I found.  I die cut a little fence and some flowers to give the house some “curb appeal”.  The house number is temporary, as I will personalize it with the actual house number of the eventual recipient, hopefully using some plastic numbers from the same set as the ones shown.  Once the outside was done, it was time to do some interior decorating…..I wallpapered with a subtle check print, laid some hardwood floors, and used the same trimboard from the outside for baseboards.  I then carefully placed the Sprite so he looked out the door.  I added the sentiment, partly stamped, and finished with a sticker “HOME”  I die cut this with a banner die.  A few sticker hearts finish this off, because a home is about love……Puppy Love, in this case!!!

Mermaid Princess

Hi there 🙂  I’m so excited to actually be caught up….sorta…..on my DT projects and get to have some fun with other artists’ work 🙂  This lovely image is from an artist that I recently discovered (through my Creative Fingers DT), named Christine Karron.  Her gorgeous mermaids and fairies really captivated me.  This mermaid is available in both grayscale and lineart versions, as well as in packs.  I opted for the lineart (as usual), found HERE.  I colored her with my Copics…..using almost every color I had, LOL.

I decided to keep the color scheme of the card simple, because of the colorfulness(?) of the image, and went with black and gold.  After making an easel card base up, and matting the image, and stamped/embossed sentiment, I die cut some fish net and a sea shell border to dress the card up.  For some final touches, I also added some tiny fish die cuts and a scattering of iridescent sequins 🙂  I can hardly wait until I free up some more time to play with images from this fabulous artist!!!

Autumn Bliss

Hi there 🙂  I’m here today with my last inspiration piece for this month’s Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook challenge….with the theme of Autumn. With the leaves turning, and the temperatures dropping, it certainly feels like Autumn, even though the calendar says we still have a week of summer left!  I used Sunflower, from the Flora and Fauna set, that can be found in Ching-Chou’s Etsy store.  I colored this lovely image with my Copic markers, then cut it out with a wonky stitch rectangle die from MFT, that I inked with Distress Inks before cutting, to give the stitching some definition.

I went through my paper stash, frantically looking for ideas as to what to do, lol.  I finally settled on a weird green …. a color I never would have chosen with this image had I not held the image up to it and saw the WOW!!  I used this green to cut out a number of leaves with some Little B dies, which I inked with some fall colored Distress inks.  I glued the leaves onto the backing paper, loving the subtle effect the ink on the same paper gave them.  I needed a bit more to define the image, so I cut another rectangle from brown CS, and set it at an angle underneath.  Loving the colors of autumn that are showcased on this card 🙂
