Stars

This is a different style of card, for me.  One of my best friends recently lost her son.  The anguish that she feels touches me deeply, and I would give anything to turn back the hands of time, or in the very least, take the pain away, just for a moment.  I saw this legend, and knew I had to use it on the card.  I used a star background die to cut the navy blue background, and layered it on a very pale gray CS.  I printed the sentiment using matching navy ink, and placed it over the background.  I used ONE gold sparkly star, and inlaid it into the background, to represent her son.

I hope that when she looks out at the sky at night, she remembers this legend and gets some small comfort. <3

Spring Monochrome

Well this is a bit late, due to some internet difficulties!

Good morning!! Half way through March already, and spring is DEFINITELY springing here in Saskatchewan!! 🙂  What a difference it makes in people’s moods!  I have another inspiration card for Ching-Chou Kuik’s Facebook challenge, with the theme of Spring/Easter (the blog challenge theme is the same, so be sure to enter both places!!!).  This week, the DT was challenged to make a monochrome card. I had a bit of difficulty thinking of something, until I found this pussy willow print paper in my stash 🙂  I colored Spring Nocturne, from this lovely set, with my Copics, sticking to tones of muted brown.

I actually had some glitter in the right colors to add to the flowers, to add a bit of zing.  I matted both the image and the background with a dark brown CS.  I tied the big fluffy bow with some tulle type ribbon that I recently received from a Facebook friend in a card swap.  I kept looking at the card, before realizing that this was all that was needed…..not quite CAS, but not overly complicated, either 🙂

Celebrate Spring

Hi there 🙂  I’m writing this with the faintest hope that spring may actually be springing here!!! I really hope I didn’t jinx the nice weather by writing that!!! With Spring approaching, we have a very timely challenge theme at the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group this month – Spring/Easter.  As a matter of fact, the blog challenge has the same theme, which doubles your chances at winning some gorgeous images…..you just have to enter 🙂  The Etsy store has so many gorgeous spring and/or Easter images, you will be spoiled for choice!!  For my card, I chose Spring In the Air, and colored it in a bright, spring color scheme with my Copics.  I found some coordinating printed paper pieces, and a bright spring green CS.  I die cut a circle design, and adhered some pink blooms with rhinestone centres.  The sentiment was stamped and die cut into a banner.  For a bit more interest, I doodled some white dots on the edges of the print papers before layering everything all up.

Luck

Hi there!! I hope everyone is doing well, and either looking forward to warmer weather in the “polar vortex” area, or cooling off in the parts of the world that have had the crazy heat wave!!! Over at Creative Fingers, we are starting a new ATG challenge, which is being sponsored by the lovely Angelique, who has a lovely stamp set on offer!

This would be a great addition to any crafter’s collenction!!!  For my card, I used a Power Poppy image….it’s been wayyy too long since I’ve worked with one of Marcella’s images…..and this image “Wish You Luck” is just perfect for this time of year.  I colored it up with my Copics and then fussy cut it out.

I found some green paper pieces, and layered it up with some burlap, adhesive lace trim, and a doily die cut.  The darker green piece needed a little more “something” so I added some faux stitching and then a few brads that mirror the buttons in the image.  I added the fussy cut image to the doily.  I printed the sentiment that came with the image on vellum, and attached it to overlay the bottom layers.  I love this sentiment, as it can be used for any number of occasions – so I’ll leave the inside blank until one of these occasions arises 🙂

Dragon Babies

Hi there, and happy Monday, and happy March!!! ALREADY!!!! It’s unreal how fast time flies when you’re not watching it!!  We are mid-way through the current challenge at the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog, and it’s such a fun theme, with so many interpretations.

Check out the post at the beginning of the challenge, as well as the mid-challenge inspiration, for all kinds of cool projects from our DTs.  I guarantee it will get you thinking about rainbows (or songs, or movies….or…)  I took the theme quite literally, and colored the Baby Dragons image (found HERE in the Digi Shop, and HERE at the Etsy store) in bright, rainbow colors with my Copic markers.

I fussy cut them out after coloring, so I could place them on the raised centre part of a lattice die cut frame. I used the same color markers and blending solution to make the background that carries through with the rainbow theme.  The sentiment was computer generated, cut into a banner, and popped up with foam.

Since this card was going together so nicely, and not causing me any grief whatsoever, I decided to “fix” that, and place pearls at the intersecting sections of the lattice. I’m loving the bright and cheerful look of this card, to celebrate the double joy of twins 🙂

The Wings of Love

Hi there!! This is my last inspiration project for the current challenge in the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group.  Our theme is Love/Valentines/For Someone Special.  Since the blog challenge theme is the same, you have 2 chances to win some fabulous images from Ching-Chou’s store!!! I have used the sweet “Gentle Heart” image for my heart shaped card.

I colored it with my Copics, then layered it up with other hearts, which I inked the edges of.  I added a dotted border on the red layers to add a bit more interest.  I was surprised to find some pink dotted ribbon that coordinated quite nicely with the rest of the card – so I used it to tie a bow, which I centered with a pretty sparkly heart.  Love the finished look of this, as it leaves no doubt as to which occasion it’s for, lol!

Ribbon and Roses

Hi there!!! It’s already the beginning of a new ATG challenge on Creative Fingers!!! Sometimes, I just don’t know where the time disappears to so quickly!!! For this challenge, we are being sponsored by our wonderful DT leader, Angelique, who has a lovely stamp set on offer for the winner 🙂  I’ve used a stunning image from Lemon Shortbread for my card, called Ribbon Roses.

I colored her with Copics, then fussy cut her out, so she would fit on the die cut background.  I love the rose cut out on the background and how it coordinates so nicely with the image.  After matting it on some red CS, I added a blue bow and red rose for an embellishment to match the image.  I finished everything off with some silver pearl accents.

Tulip Row

Hi there 🙂  The 20th of the month has rolled around once again, and it’s time for a new ATG challenge at the Sheepski Designs Facebook group.  As always, we have an optional theme to help you along, if needed, and this time, it’s Pretty Florals.   I’m sure that many of you are like me, and anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring!!! One of the things I love about spring, aside from the warmer temperatures, is the initial bursts of color from the first flowers.  I used Andrea’s Tulip Border for my card.  I printed the image on kraft card stock and pulled out my Prismacolor pencils to color.  I stamped and embossed a simple sentiment in the bottom corner, before adding embellishments.  I edged a gorgeous piece of lace with some pink satin ribbon – the same ribbon that I used to tie the double bow.

A colorful dragonfly embelly perches in the center of the bow.  I think the rather simple design here lets the beautiful spring image shine!!

With Love

Hi there 🙂  Another Sunday rolls around, and I’m here to share my latest inspiration for the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook challenge.  Our theme is Valentine’s Day/Love/For Someone Special.  The theme at the blog is the same, so we would love to see your fabulous entries at both challenges….and it also doubles your chance of winning 🙂 There are so many beautiful images at the Etsy store that fit in perfectly with this theme.  I have chosen to use Love Maneki-neko for my card.

I colored the image with my Copics, and decided to go for a CAS style for this card. (Ok, I was suffering from a lack of mojo, and couldn’t come up with anything fancy!!! lol).  I die cut a silver frame, and placed it around the image, fussy cutting the bottome part of the image to over hang the frame.  I used a wavy stamp to “weave” the sentiment from the card blank, under the frame and onto the image. I heat embossed this to coordinate with the frame, and called this card done 🙂

Love

Hi there! Thanks for visiting today.  We have been in the midst of a true winter deep freeze, here.  It looks like we are finally getting out of the -35 or colder temperatures that we’ve been having for the last week.  Toughens a person up, that’s for sure.  But, truthfully, if you know how to bundle up properly, it isn’t that bad, as long as you’re smart. 🙂  But enough of the weather talk, lol.  Today, I have an inspiration card for the current challenge in the Ching-Chou Kuik Facebook group.  Our theme (which is the same as on the Challenge Blog), is Valentines Day/Love/For Someone Special.  There are a ton of lovely images that correspond with this theme in the Etsy store!!  I have used a beautiful mermaid from THIS set for my card.  I went totally against my “grain” and colored the image, using Copics, in pastel shades – I rarely go the pastel route!!  I then layered everything up with more pastel shaded papers.  I made a poofy mauve bow, and popped a die cut “love” into the center.  A scattering of hearts sprinkled on the background finish this card off 🙂
